Meanwhile in an upscale part of town, two women sat in a very well furnished two bedroom condo waiting for their shared lover. Robin and Sasha sat going over their plan of just how they would surprise Jay once he arrived. They went over various scenarios of what could possibly happen and what he might say to cover his tracks. Sasha had suggested that they both be sitting in the living room so when he walked into the house the first thing he would see was the both of them sitting together. Robin made it clear that she wanted to hear him admit to everything that was going on before she stepped out to surprise him. The two of them just couldn’t come up with a scenario that would satisfy either woman completely.
They eventually started comparing notes as to how he had been able to keep them in the dark on each other’s existence for nearly two years. Robin talked about how she and Jay had met in a Biology lab during their sophomore year of college and how even though they were from the same city, they had never known each other existed before college. She and Jay had dated off and on throughout the rest of college and had gotten engaged and married within four months of graduating with their bachelor’s degree. Jay had proposed almost immediately after finding out that she was pregnant and Robin’s family had rushed the wedding, seeing how she was already expecting. Robin had gotten a job with the hospital before she graduated and Jay had gotten several offers from different companies once he graduated. He had taken a position with a company called Secur-Corp that required him to move to Atlanta to train for three months.
Sasha and Jay had met in Atlanta while interviewing for the same position at SecurCorp and had what she thought would be a one-night stand. A month after her own college graduation she arrived at the training site to see Jay smiling with an empty seat beside him. They quickly rekindled their old flame, and good thing too because a month later she found out she was two months pregnant. Jay was so excited when he found out that she would be working in his division, which meant she had to move to his hometown. He had helped her find and put a down payment on her condo. She took Robin back to her bedroom to show her Jay’s clothes hanging in the closet.
As Robin looked through her husband’s items hanging in Sasha’s closet she started to tear up as she came across a few pieces that she had bought for him. Sasha placed her hand on Robin’s shoulder rubbing it gently. She felt partially responsible for the pain Robin was feeling and tried to ease her pain. The ladies suddenly heard a key turning in the lock and their initial plan to have Robin waiting at the dining room table was shot. Sasha quickly told Robin to just wait in the bedroom with the door cracked and listen while she went out and got Jay to admit that he had been dating her. She instructed Robin to come out when she had heard everything she needed to hear. Both women were angry, nervous and ready. Sasha nonchalantly walked down the hall and into the living room where Jay was locking the door behind him.
She was constantly telling herself to stay calm. Act natural. Don’t pick up this lamp and hit him across the head with it. Just let him talk himself into a hole. That’s all you’ve got to do. “Hey baby!” She said as she embraced him and kissed him softly on the lips. She continued, “ I missed you.”
“I missed you too.” Jay said as he lifted her off the floor, “I like your hair.”
“Yeah.” Sasha replied somewhat shocked that he had even taken the time to notice her new hairdo. She asked, “Really? Do you like it?”
“Yeah, you look good.” He slowly let her down but continued to hold her in his arms and continued, “I heard you were trying to transfer out of our division. What is that about? Are you trying to leave me?”
“Well, It’s not like you really want to be with me. You won’t even set a date for our wedding.” Sasha said hoping her voice was loud enough for Robin to hear her from the bedroom. “Besides, maybe we need to stay broken up for-“
“Don’t talk like that.” Jay interrupted and pulled Sasha closer to him, “You know I want to be with you. I love you.”
“If you loved me you’d marry me.” Sasha shot back.
“ I do love you. I told you that I’m waiting to see if they are going to make me head of the division and then we’ll have all the money we need for a house,” he continued placing kisses on various parts of her face and neck with every word, “a new car” kiss, “a better engagement ring” kiss “a big wedding” and the last kiss was one too many for Sasha.
She pulled away from Jay’s grasp and turned away, so that he couldn’t see the anger welling up inside of her. “Jay you are so full of shit.” She said in a hushed tone momentarily losing her composure. “Get it together girl,” she thought to herself as Jay again wrapped his arms around her.
“Let’s not fight.” He said and maneuvered around her hair to kiss her neck. “I thought we came here to make up.”
“How long have we been together?” Sasha said holding her head to one side making her neck more accessible to him.
“Almost two wonderful years” he said and placed a kiss her neck. The kiss sent a tingle up Sasha’s spine that made her weak in the knees. Her eyes rolled shut as he kissed her neck again and inhaled her scent deep. She decided that she had to get on with the plan before she lost her will to do so.
“You haven’t been cheating on me or anything like that have you?” She said which caused Jay to loosen his grip enough to allow her to turn in his arms and look him in the eye.
“Why would you ask me something like that?” He said becoming visibly upset by the question.
“Because I want to know if I’m the only woman in your life, “ she said holding her head down as if it was too painful to look at him any longer, “I was just wondering if that was the reason you won’t set the date. You know because you have someone on the side.”
Jay took her chin in his hand, lifted her head up and responded in his most sincere voice, “I promise there is no one else in my life but you and Cree. You two are all I have to live for. I told you, as soon as I know about this promotion. As soon as I know, then we can make plans for our future.”
Sasha was starting to wonder if Robin were going to come out of the bedroom or not. She had gotten Jay to say that he loved her and that they were engaged and she had even gotten him to confess to how long they had been involved. What more did this girl need? She decided she would have to give her a formal introduction and Jay gave her just the opening she needed to do so.
He wrapped his arms around her once more and inhaled the scent of her freshly styled hair. “Your hair smells so good, Baby.”
“Really” Sasha said and started, “I got it done today. I went to a new salon over in Adventura Plaza. This girl named Monique did it.”
“Oh. Well it looks good.” Jay said not at all disturbed by her comment. Maybe he doesn’t know Monique, she thought, but how could he not know his wife's cousin. Jay released her from his embrace and walked into the kitchen and opened the fridge looking for something to drink.
“I met this girl there too. She was really nice and she has a baby the same age as Cree. We set up a play date for Saturday.” She said watching for any signs of nervousness on his part. None. He just picked up a carton of juice from the fridge and started drinking from it.
“What? I’m gonna drink all of this, so don’t look at me like that.” He said closing the fridge. “Go ahead…you made a play date.”
Sasha stood there for a moment silenced by the sheer of awe of his calmness. Maybe he was the wrong guy. He wasn’t acting like a man who was hiding a secret life from his fiancée. “Right.” She continued, “We set up a play date. I thought you might know her since you’ve lived here all of your life. Her name is Robin Harrison.” Then she saw it. The nanosecond pause of a man caught up. His eyes shifted quickly from left to right as though he was scanning his brain for a quick way out of this conversation.
