You Think You Know...But (pt. 39)

“What?” Robin gasped, shocked that Nikki would ask about her tryst with Justice. She figured just knowing would satisfy her curiosity, but she was sadly mistaken.  Not only did Nikki want to know how it happened she wanted details on the when, what and why of the entire situation.  Both Nikki and Monique sat with waiting eyes, as they sat on the edge of their seats waiting with bated breath to hear just how two seemingly platonic friends had ended up wondering if they shared parentage of a child.

“Don’t what me,” Nikki replied. “You heard me. How did you and Justice end up in bed together and how many times?” She asked before she turned her attention to Monique saying, “Mo, there’s a bottle of chardonnay in the fridge.  Go grab that and some glasses so we can hear this one.”  Mo practically leapt from her seat behind Nikki to do as she was told.  She wanted to know what had happened just as badly as Nikki and wine seemed like an excellent idea to listen to what she considered the most explosive scandal in her cousin’s marriage.  She was scared that she would miss something so she ran through Nikki’s kitchen at top speed grabbing the first three glasses she saw, as well as, the first bottle of wine she saw in the fridge.

She returned to find the two women looking as though it was a showdown in the old west.  They were just sitting silently staring each other, undoubtedly waiting for Monique’s return to discuss the topic any further.  Monique handed Nikki the bottle of wine and glasses before she took a seat beside her on the floor.

“Mo,” Nikki said upon inspection of the bottle she had been given, “girl, this is sparkling wine and these are champagne flutes.”
Monique just hunched her shoulders saying, “Alcohol is alcohol.  Hell, it will all get you drunk and we aren’t at dinner.  We’re sitting on the floor of your den about to listen to all of Robin’s business, so what difference does the glass make?  If you ask me, we could have drank it out of these teacups. I’m just saying.”

“See this is why Velle loves you.”  Nikki said as she pulled open a hidden drawer in one of the end tables closest to her and pulled out a corkscrew.  She proceeded to open the bottle as she continued, “That sounds just like some mess he’d say.”  She popped the cork out of the bottle and poured each of them a glass.

Robin immediately put the glass to her lips and made her drink disappear almost as fast as Nikki had poured it.  She burped before saying, “Uh-uh, give me another one.  If I’m gonna tell this story then I’m gonna need a little bit more courage than that.”  Nikki was anxious for her to get started so she was more than happy to oblige.  Robin found her confidence at the bottom of the second glass and began her story saying, “Okay. I’m only gonna tell this story once so you better listen cause I’m not repeating any of this.  Justice and I only slept together once.  It happened when these IT companies were recruiting Jay and he was being flown from place to place undoubtedly hopping from one, one nightstand to another.  Anyway, Justice and I have always gotten along and I would always go over to study with him or just hang out whenever Jay was out of town or missing in action.  I had just finished up clinicals so I decided to give Jay a call to see how things were going on this particular “business” trip.  Imagine my surprise when some girl answers the phone and says he’s washing up in the bathroom.  Well, I was extremely pissed.  I was like this motherfucker’s cheating on me and stupid enough to let some bitch answer his phone.  It was over, right then but I had put up with a lot of shit from Jay so I felt like it was time to get a little revenge.  I knew that Justice had a little thing for me so I decided the best way to get back at Jay was to mess Justice because I knew that would really fuck him up because he considered Justice his brother.  I got dolled up in the tiniest dress I could squeezed my big ass into making sure to leave the bra and panties at home, grabbed a bottle of vodka and orange juice and went over to pay Justice an unexpected visit.  It was a Friday night but I knew Justice would be home because he never went anywhere without Jay.  Justice’s big mistake that night was that he opened the door for me and let me in.  He was there…alone.”

“Wait, wait, wait.” Nikki interrupted even though she was more than intrigued by Robin’s story, she needed her to fill in a detail that would make the story true for her.  She asked, “Velle, Jay and Justice lived together the last two years they were in school together.  Where was Velle at while this was happening?”

“Girl, please,” Robin said before she took another gulp of wine.  She continued, “you know your brother’s a hoe.” She glanced at the disapproving look on her cousin’s face.  She had forgotten for a second that she was talking about the man in her cousin’s life but she quickly corrected it before she continued her story saying, “was…was a hoe.  He was probably out lying to some girl…as a matter of fact this is when he was all hung up on that stanky ass Megan chick.  So he was probably over there because he didn’t come home at all that night.  I don’t know but anyway back to my story and stop interrupting or I’m just going to stop the story all together.”  Robin finished her third glass of wine and by this time it was safe to say that she was a little drunk because she was starting to slur her words and her story started to sound more like the ramblings of a drunks memories than a confession.  She continued, “Anyway, I showed up looking fine as hell, body banging, smelling like Heaven, ready to seduce a virgin.”

“Virgin?” Monique gasped in disbelief.

“Who? Justice? He had to be like 21 or 22.  Are you telling me Justice was nearly finished his Bachelor’s degree and he was still a damn virgin?”  Nikki added, in just as much shock as Monique.  It was almost impossible for her to believe that the man who had given her multiple orgasms had only been having sex for two or three years.

“Bitches!” Robin snapped, “didn’t I tell you two to stop asking questions?  Yes! Yes, he was a virgin! Now, shut the fuck up and let me finish the damn story!”

“You lucky I wanna know what happened.” Nikki commented but before she was completely quiet.

“Anyway, after a few drinks and a lot of conversation about nothing, I said something like ‘I wish I had met you before Jay cause we would have been great together’, which prompted him to say ‘I tried to talk to you first but Jay told me that you said that you didn’t want to talk to me because I wasn’t your type.  You know that you liked jocks and since he played ball...well.’  Now by this time, Jay had already confessed that he was supposed to try to hook me up with Justice but after he had seen me he wanted me for himself, but I wasn’t about to let Justice know that.  I was trying to seduce this dude.  Plus by this time I was drunk and horny and hell Justice was fine with a body that was just amazing.   All that joker used to do was workout and study…yea, but anyway, I played like I was shocked and I could tell that he was pissed that Jay had done him dirty like that, which is right where I needed him to be.  He was drunk too…it was like talking candy from a sleeping baby.  I was so aggressive in my methods that he couldn’t resist me but it wasn’t like he really wanted to at that time.   I was like every virgins dream.  He basically just had to lay back and relax, as I made him bust nuts in me all over Jay’s bed.”

“Okay, that’s enough of that shit!  You ain’t gon be in here talking bout my man bustin’ nuts in you.  Let’s just end that right now, before I beat yo ass, for real.”  Nikki said as she had reached her comfort level with Robin’s story.  She could care less that it had only happened once or that it was years ago because she considered Justice her man and the last thing she wanted to hear about was him with another woman especially one she considered a friend now.

“Oh Nikki,” Monique said a fake look of concern on her face as she continued, “Girl, when did you get ghetto?”

Robin laughed as she had been thinking the exact same thing.  She added, “For real.  Nikki, done went all gangsta on me.  I love when the boushe get all boushetto.”

“Whatever,” Nikki rolled her eyes before she too giggled and continued, “You can’t talk about a girl’s man like that and expect her to remain dignified.  Shoot.”

“Okay, that’s fair. Where was I?” Robin said before she finished her story, “The next morning the alcohol wore off and we were awaken to your brother opening the damn door without knocking to find us butt naked in Jay’s bed.  I got dressed and rolled out leaving Justice to deal with the aftermath. I was hoping that Velle would go back and tell Jay but he never did.  I guess his friendship with Justice was greater than his loyalty to Jay but I’m glad that he didn’t cause this whole thing has really taken a toll on Justice.  He’s been worried about Jay finding out ever since it happened.  When we found out I was pregnant he didn’t know what to do.  He had just convinced himself to believe that nothing had happened between us but when he found out a baby was on the way…he’s the reason I didn’t get an abortion because he was so afraid that the baby was his and he would rather his child be alive as his baby cousin than not alive at all.  Jay asked me to marry him before I ever told him I was pregnant and I know it sounds bad but…after all the dirt Jay had done to me…I felt almost empowered knowing that I was possibly carrying a baby that wasn’t even his…the only reason I didn’t tell Jay that Justine may not be his was because I knew it would destroy his relationship with Justice and after all Justice had done for me I could never do that to him.  My biggest regret is that I put him the position he’s in right now.  He does anything Jay asks him to because of all the guilt he’s carrying around about the baby.  He is so in love with you Nikki…you just don’t know.  He maxed out his credit card to get you this.”  Robin said as she went into her purse and handed Nikki the tennis bracelet Justice had asked her to get rid of it.  She had intended to get rid of it all right; out of her possession and into Nikki’s.  She continued as Nikki read the inscription that read ‘To St. Nick, the love of my life. Love Always-Justice’, “That’s why I finally convinced him to get the DNA test.   We’ll know in a few weeks if he’s Justine father or not.”
