The Neighbor - pt. 3

Camilla and I dated for several weeks before officially becoming an item. Our hook up was the talk of the town. She had m any suitors after her with more than I could offer her. In addition, she wasn’t known for dating athletes. Our pictures were plastered all over the place, the local newspaper, news, and the internet. It comes with the job one of my boys told me, nothing we do kept quiet unless you don’t leave your house, We couldn’t go anywhere without being recognized, It didn’t help that management finally decided to move me up to starters line up so my status in the league changed also it seemed like overnight. I was the guy that played occasionally when someone fouled out, now I was a star player with a new salary contract.

Everything was going cozy and smooth, until the day I asked Camilla to be my wife. We’ve been dating almost nine months, the time flew past, and I figured it is either now or never. I wouldn’t be settling nor have I compared her to Linda. She wasn’t even privy to the change in my pattern while I prepared to propose to her. I informed my parents of my intentions. They were pleased with the ring I selected on my own. My dad asked me have I spoken to Camilla’s parents as of yet, it is the right thing to do. I told him that her father passed away two years ago; however, I plan on having dinner with her mother this week to ask and inform her of my plans of proposal. My father and I shook hands while my mother stood to the left of him watching with tears in her eyes. I walked up to her and hugged her tightly.

She abruptly stopped me. She whispered that she has something to tell me. I asked her what was wrong. She said “nothing” as she turned her head. After ten minutes, she spoke up. Apparently, she got a call from Linda about two months ago claiming that she had a baby by me. She further insinuated that I am an unfit father. She told me mother that I haven’t seen my so-called son at all since he was born. She convinced my mother that the real reason why her parents moved her out of town was because she was pregnant with my child. She was scared how her parents would react if they found out that I was the baby’s father. She told me mother bold face lies. My mother told me disappointedly that I cannot marry Camilla until I dealt with my situation with Linda. Without my attitude flaring, I politely told me mother I never in my life had sexual intercourse with Linda, which was very hard to do. My mother was still shocked that I spoke to her in that manner. My mother bounced back rather quickly and then proceeded to say darling why would Linda lie on your good name, Plummer?

You’ve never had any drama your whole career and now someone from your past wants to stir up problems, attempting to ruin your credibility. I told my mother I would handle it ASAP!!! Thinking back to sophomore year of high school, Linda leaving due to a pending pregnancy made more sense than the BS she sold to me that day, so many years ago beneath the bleachers. I am so glad my dick never peeked inside of her. I knew I had spotted her at my new house several months ago. She must have realized how much my salary and status had changed due to my move to first string. She didn’t say anything to me that night. I believe that she was intentionally avoiding me only to call my parents with this nonsense knowing how god fearing they are. They wouldn’t go for this foolishness. I know her baby isn’t mine because there wasn’t any sexual activity between us and she knows this or she would have gone to the media seeking a payout. The payload would be large for being the first groupie of female to slander the brand of “Plum” by having my baby.

I called my attorney, Phil, and my agent, Bob, to inform them both of what was going on silently and behind closed doors. We discussed a course of action. They both agreed with my course. They knew I didn’t have any bastards floating around. I then called my home-boy, Mike. He brought Linda’s trifling ass to my home. He said, Plum I only met her during our last home game. Not really shocked, he claims that they only went out three times, including the party. Matter of fact I haven’t heard from or seen her since your party. I didn’t pay it any attention until this call. I got want I wanted that night – some pussy. I laughed, because I wasn’t surprised. It was all I could do. Interestingly enough, Linda was still the good time for all. I trusted Mike and I knew he wouldn’t lie about busting a nut.

Eventually with everything going on, I had to tell Camilla. She would have started questioning my sudden mood swings. I went ahead and had dinner with her lovely mother, Irene. Ms. Irene gave me her blessings and wished her husband were still alive to walk his daughter down the aisle. I promised Ms. Irene that I would never purposely hurt her daughter. She grabbed my hands and kissed them. I wondered where this was going. She then said Derrick, I mean Plum, I was married 50 strong sometimes questionable years to my husband, Camilla’s father, before the Lord took him away. Ms. Irene continued there will be ups and downs in your marriage. The goal is to work through them and ensure that you have each others back.

Ms. Irene looked me directly in the eyes and told me to take care of her eldest daughter. She continued, make sure that you do not have any unanswered questions or regrets going into this or your will have a very unhealthy and unhappy union. At that moment, I wanted to tell her about Linda. I have to tell Camilla first so I changed my mind. We needed to talk about the backlash, etc that may arise. I knew the conversation would not be an easy one. She was not the typical women who settled and accepted drama in her life. It would be expected of me to clear this matter up quickly. If the situation got out of control, I could count on my sister to go “hood / goon” in a minute. I was also aware of Camilla’s sister, Shawna, who has no problems being ghetto 24/7. She resides downtown Detroit with all of the hustlers and hoes. No one would believe Shawna graduated from college based on the way she carried herself. Camilla distant herself from her sister; however, one night we were at Mo’s bar and Grill when some chick walked up to our table raising her voice and creating a scene. Camilla apologized profusely before pulling the young women towards the back of the restaurant. She was gone for a long time. I took a chance, and ordered for the both of us. When she resurfaced she apologized once more before informing me that the young lady who appeared at our table was her younger sister. Camilla further explained that she didn’t communicate with her sister due to her ties with the most unsavory characters that she could find herself around.

Camilla said she was disappointed in her sister for wasting her education and throwing away the opportunities that wee presented t her. I listened to her complain about Shawna this and that, but I knew one day that she would come in handy. I only met her twice indirectly that one time at the bar and grill, and I knew then that she was not a force to be reckoned with. I suspected that she wasn’t as “hood” as she portrayed by just taking in her body language. The second time was at Camilla’s mother’s house. She cleaned up very well for that particular visit. She has on an expensive Coogi outfit, a sweater with matching pants. She also had on some Prada sandals and a Rolex, which I cost several thousands of dollars.
