Chapter 4

Denasia

I don’t know what was said between my mama and Ms. Sally, but my mama came running into the house obviously upset.

Wiping away her tears she said, “Cut the fire off on the stove.” Without waiting for me to respond she went upstairs to her room and closed her door. Before I could go after her to see what was wrong, the house phone started ringing. After looking at the caller ID, I knew I should’ve let it go to voicemail, but something told me to answer it.

“Hello”

“Hey is your mother there?” It was Darren.

“No she just left.” I knew I was wrong for lying, but I couldn’t  contain my jealousy.

“Okay can you tell her to call me when she gets in?”

“Really Darren is she the only person that you want to speak to?”

“Actually yes she is. Remember you wanted to break up with me. I’m just following your lead.”

“Glad to see that I’m not worth you putting up a fight for.”

“Denasia don’t start. I don’t have time for your childish mind games. Either you want me or you don’t.”

“You know that I want to be with, but I cant. You are my mama’s fiancé and things are starting to get real complicated.

“You need to learn to follow your heart and -”

All of a sudden there was a click on the phone line as if somebody had picked up the phone and put it back on the receiver.

“What was that noise?”

“I don’t know.”

“Who else is with you in the house?”

“Nobody I think.”

“Damn Denasia why would you even be talking about our business on the house phone. Fuck! I got to go. Bye”

“Wait-” Before I could finish my sentence I heard a dial tone in my ear.

I knew somebody picked up that phone and listened to our conversation.  I just hope it wasn’t my mama.

By the time Erica pulled up into Ms. Sally’s driveway, I had given her a fabricated story about Ms. Sally lying on me to my mama.
“I cant believe she would make up that story and cause conflict between you and your moms.”

“I know right. I think she did because she wants Darren to herself.”

“Girl she is out of line. Do you want me to wait right here until you come out?”

“Naw that’s ok girl. I might be in here for awhile, so you go ahead.”

“Are you sure you don’t need me?”

“Yeah I’ll be fine, but  I will call you if I need some help beating this old bitch down. Ha ha.”

“You are so silly. Call me later. Bye”

“Okay. Bye”

I walked to Ms. Sally’s door and started pounding on it like I was the police.

“Who that is knocking on my damn door like they crazy?!”

“Bitch you know who it is open this fucking door!”

When she opened the door, I pushed past her and went in the house.

“You know you’re a rude little gal.”

“Yeah I know people tell me that all the time.”

“I bet. So how did I do? Do you think that my act was believable.”

“Your not as good as me but it was good.”

“Honey I have been acting all my life. You cant compete with me.”

“Anyways, now that phase one is complete its time for us to start with phase 2.”

Me and Ms. Sally have been working together for the past 2 months to expose Darren for the cheating, trifling dog that he really is. Of course I had ulterior motives like bringing my sister down with him, but Ms. Sally didn’t need to know that.

“Well you need to go home later tonight and convince your mother that things are not what they seem and get back on her good side.”

“I know that much but what else needs to be done?”

“Well besides you getting pregnant nothing much.”

“Wait a minute me getting pregnant was not a part of the plan.”

“Well we need to have proof that you guys had sex because he can easily say that you are lying.”

“I don’t know about all of that. What am I going to do with a baby?”

“You can have an abortion when everything is complete.”

“Let me think about it and I will get back to you when I have an answer.”

“Okay but hurry up because we don’t have long.”

“Yeah okay.”

I walked out of her house and decided that I was going to walk home because my house wasn’t very far. I needed to think about things. The plan was to have Ms. Sally tell my mama that I have been having an affair with Darren and then for me to tell my mama that Darren had been forcing me to have sex with him, but all of a sudden I’m starting to get mixed feelings about everything. I don’t know if I want to go through with this little plan anymore. I got this feeling that Ms. Sally is keeping some information from me and I don’t like it.
