ONE NIGHT....14

Saturday the 18th…..

Someone was holding her hand, squeezing it almost, telling her to hold on.  Hold on to what, Vanessa thought.  Then there was darkness.

“Ma’am can you her me?”  “You are in an ambulance; can you tell me what happened?”

“ma’am, ma’am?”

What was that loud noise piercing through her darkness?  It was making her head hurt something awful.  Then she remembered she was in an ambulance.  She managed to open her mouth, and tried to talk.

“The sirens.”

“I’m sorry, what ma’am.”

“The sirens are too loud.”

“Oh, I’m sorry, but we are almost to the hospital, just a couple more minutes.”

Why was she going to the hospital?  All she could remember was being in her bathroom, and getting ready to take a bath.  Maybe she fell in the tub or something. The ambulance came to a stop.  The doors flew open and then she was moving.  There were people around her talking real fast.  They were using all those words she saw them use on Grey’s Anatomy, her favorite show.   Pain gripped her body, and then all of a sudden it was dark again.  The next thing she remembered she was in the hospital bed, a little drowsy, and her mind seemed foggy.    She could not remember why she was in the hospital, and then it dawned on her that she had fallen in her bathroom.  For some reason though, it did not seem to fit.  She felt like she was missing parts to a puzzle in her mind. She turned her head and saw Jason sitting in a chair beside her bed.  He looked so cute when he slept.  She went to get up and felt weird.   She mustered up enough strength to get out of the bed and make it to the bathroom.  Once in there she noticed that she was wearing these really heavy pads, and they were soaked in blood.  The sight of the blood sent chills through her body, and it all came back to her… Jason, the fight, him pushing her down the stairs.  Oh god the baby, oh god, she started screaming.

“Vanessa are you ok?”

Jason came running into the bathroom; he found Vanessa crouched on the floor holding her belly. She was crying so hard her body was shaking.  Jason ran out to get the nurse.  Two nurses followed him into the room, the pushed him out of the way and told him to give them room.  He had never seen anything like this in his life. Vanessa was bleeding every where. She was screaming, asking if her baby was ok.  When they got her to the bed and explained to her that she had lost the baby, due to the fall and severe hemorrhaging, she went crazy, the  had to sedate her.

Jason had never felt so bad in his life.  Even though she had sent those tapes to Donna, she did not deserve this.  He felt even worse to have been the cause of the death of his son.  His heart broke when the doctors told him it was a boy… This is not how he wanted things to go.  How did it get this far?  A fling during a business trip had spiraled out of control, and now his child is dead, at his hands.  Nothing could be worse then this.

A few hours later Vanessa woke up, asking for water….  The moment she turned her head and saw him her eyes got angry and filled with tears.

“Get out”

Her voice was barely audible but he heard her.  “Vanessa, I never meant for this to happen.  You have to believe me.”

“I don’t have to do anything, but you, you have to get out of my room now.”

“Vanessa I need you to know that I…

“Spare me, Jason.”  “Why are you still even here?”  “You got want you wanted.  My baby is dead.”  “Shouldn’t you be somewhere having a celebratory drink?”

“It hurts me that you would think that of me.”  “No matter how I felt about you I would never hurt an innocent child, let alone a child of mine.”

“You are hurt?”  “YOU ARE HURT?”  “I have lost my baby and you are trying to tell me you are hurt.  “I can’t believe your audacity.”

Just then the doctor came in to talk to Vanessa.  He informed her that he would be keeping her overnight for observation.  She will free to home tomorrow afternoon.

He told her that although she had lost the baby, she was a healthy young woman and can have more kids in the future.

Jason knew that she needed some time alone, so he offered to go by her apartment and get her some clean clothes to wear for when she leaves tomorrow.

“I’ll be back real soon Vanessa.”  “I’m going to go get you some fresh clothes for tomorrow.”  “is there anything else you want me to bring you?’

She did not answer him.  She just stared outside the window of her room.  Jason did not push, he would bring everything he though she would need.  Right now he knew he needed to stay in his lane.  At least long enough to make sure she was not going to press any assault charges against him.  He picked up his keys of the table and left to go to her house.  It was almost 1am, and he was tired.  As he started his car, and pulled out the parking lot, he couldn’t help but be relieved that Vanessa no longer had anything to hold against him.  At least now he did not have to explain a baby to Donna.  Without the baby in the picture, he might have a chance to save his marriage….
