The Neighbor - pt. 5

We hugged. Camilla pulled back first. She asked… what we are going to do about Linda. I said nothing. I never slept with her and her child isn’t mine. I doubt seriously she would try to put me on blast in the media or she would have gone that route first for the money. This is more personal. Camilla questioned if I had any remaining feelings for Linda. I honestly answered – hell nah. Now, over the years I’ve worried what had happened to her and I used to compare other females to her but all of that stopped once I met you. I have no plans on ruining what we have to go backwards. I do not know this Linda of today. I know that I do not appreciate her antics. I only have memories of the youthful Linda, the cheerleader. Camilla told me don’t worry about it she would handle it. She knows where Linda lives and hangs out. It shouldn’t take much to resolve this issue. It felt like a weight was lifted off my back. Camilla and I stayed in our love spot for the rest of the day finishing off both bottles of wine, and the leftovers from the meal. She squeezed another two plates out of what was left. I knew I had the right decision by asking her to be my wife.

Over the next few weeks, we became even closer. I spoke to my mom about Linda and Camilla. I didn’t tell her about their relationship that would have sparked a religious discussion that I wasn’t prepared to have. I couldn’t believe it myself when I first heard it. My agent and attorney both talked me into getting a pre-nuptial that would ban Camilla from receiving any of my money pre or post earnings since she is coming to the table with her own independent wealth. I brought up the pre-nup and Camilla was offended at first, but then she agreed to sign it. She told me she didn’t need my money. Her parents were multi-millionaires before her father died so her, her mother, and her siblings were in a good place all except for Shawna. She did say one thing I did find offensive. She said most basketball players are only rich while they played ball. Most players are broke and file for bankruptcy one year after retiring from the league so I will have my father’s old lawyer create a pre-nup that will protect my inheritance. I was pissed. I asked her so do you think I will be broke after my sports career is over. She looked at me and said the statistics have proven this look at this person, etc. I had to remind her that I am my own person. I have nothing to prove to her or anyone else. She responded by saying we shouldn’t have any financial problems to worry about. I just shook my head.

Three months later, after our heated discussion there was no sign of this so-called pre-nup so I just buried it in my mind. Needless, she came into my home office one evening finally presenting her version. It was actually fair. I had no problems signing it she still didn’t get any money from me regardless. I inquired about Linda since she never told me how she was able to get her to back off, not that it mattered she was in the wrong anyway. She caught an attitude. She said the issue has been handled so we can move on with the wedding. We both agreed on a wedding planner. My practice schedule was a huge headache to the planner. We made it work regardless. I offered to pay for the entire wedding, but Camilla’s mother, Ms. Irene was old school.

She proclaimed that the bride’s family pays for the wedding and the groom’s family pays for the reception. I was okay with that. I had the hookup with party location, etc so it wouldn’t cost me that much. I wasn’t planning on breaking the bank anyway. We agreed about four months ago to keep the wedding small and intimate. We both were allowed 50 guests or less. I went with the less. My list ended up having about 30 – 35 people on it, which included family and friends. I wasn’t worried about inviting people who I only associated with to my wedding this was my day and not a photo op opportunity to end up in someone’s newspaper.

Camilla grabbed my extra slots taking and making this an opportunity to invite those same individuals that I didn’t want at the wedding. She said we need to have certain people at the wedding just for name sake. I wasn’t happy, and I wasn’t used to this side of her. She never acted like she need acceptance in the past, but I guess this is a every women’s dream to have a dream wedding rather big or small that everyone talked about.

Her mother assisted her with every detail, I didn’t have much to add or change. I appreciated the fact the Camilla kept me informed of everything – the colors, the location, the preachers, the gifts for the bridesmaids and groomsmen. She had five friends and one of her sisters so I selected 2 homeboys from college that I’m close too, two of my teammates, and my favorite cousin, and my brother was my best man. It wasn’t a difficult decision. Her matron of honor, she later announced was Linda that shocked me as well as our mothers. I suspected there was more to the story, which is why her pre-nup was so generous compared to mine.
