MOTIVES CHAPTER 3MOTIVES CHAPTER 3
Renee I didnt get out of my study group til 10:00 that night. I didnt feel like going home to argue with Jonathan and I didnt have a early morning class, so I decided to go with a girl from my study group named Michelle. Michelle was another one of my good friends and she was a little older than me, so I always went to her to talk whenever I had a problem. She had a little boy whose about two and she was much more mature than me. Crystal was good for partying with and Michelle was good for having meaningful conversation with. I never hung out with Crystal and Michelle because they were completely different and I knew would eventually clash. I followed Michelle in my car to her new townhouse. It was a nice two-story with 2 bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms. I walked into her living room and was in awe at how nicely decorated it was. She had use the colors brown and beige that gave the place a warm and elegant feel. I sat down on her beautiful beige plush sofa while she went to the kitchen to get us a coke. She came out of the kitchen with two glasses and came and sat next to me on the couch. "So how are things going with you and Jonathan?" She asked. "They're good. He is so attentive and considerate, but we got into a little argument earlier today." I usually dont talk about my relationship with other people, but I felt like I could trust Michelle. "What was the argument about?" "The only thing we argue about, Crystal. He doesnt want me talking to her. At first I thought he was trying to be controlling, but then I realized that he was being protective. He thinks that Crystal is sneaky and sheisty." "Well I have heard some things about her from other people. Just make sure you are careful." "What kind of things have you heard?" "Its not important. Anyways why does Jonathan think she is sneaky?" I noticed how she changed the subject, but I ignored it."I dont know why. When I ask him, he always tell me that its the things she do when I am not looking, but he never goes into details." "The only thing I can tell you is to watch Crystal carefully and talk to Jonathan. Let him know that you understand where he is coming from, but at the same time you have to witness things for yourself." "Thanks Michelle, that was very helpful. Well enough about my problems, where is little man?" "Girl he went to my mama's house earlier today and you know I am enjoying that." We both laughed."I am having a birthday party for him next weekend, you and Jonathan should come." "Girl we dont have any kids to bring with us. What would we look like coming to a children's party?" "Everybody knows that whenever black people have a kid's party, it always turns into a grown folks party." We sat on the couch laughing. It felt good to laugh because lately all have dealing with is drama. "Aint that the truth. Michelle let me get home and try to mend things with Jonathan." "Ok girl I will see you tomorrow in class, bye." "Bye." I collected my things and left. It was going on 12:00 when I started driving home hoping that Jon wasnt still mad at me. When I walked in the house, there was a note from Jonathan on the table telling me that he went out with his brother and some of his friends. He put 11:50 on the paper, so I had just missed him. I knew he left because I was out for so long. I usually didnt stay out past 10 o'clock because I always had an early morning class and if I did I would call to let him know where I was. I didnt feel like calling him tonight because I didnt feel like it. I knew I was being inconsiderate but I didnt care. Justin and I needed to talk before things got out of control. Jonathan I knew I was being childish, but I left the house because if Renee could stay out at all hours of the night, I could to. My brother, Josh, wanted to go to this sports bar that had just opened up, so I went with him along with some other friends, Kerry and Marcus. We at the table that was closes to the television, so we could watch the football game. "Jon man I didnt think you would come out tonight. Usually you are all boo'd up with Renee." Josh said. "Man if I had somebody as fine as Renee, I wouldnt want to hang out with you bum ass niggas either." Marcus responded. "Yeah cause that ugly ass chick you fucking with would make any man not want to come home." We laughed because Josh wasnt lying, Marcus' new girl brought tears to my eyes and not the happy tears. "Man I told yall before, pussy aint got no face." We all had to laugh at that stupid ass fool. I missed hanging out with my boys. They always knew how to keep my mind off any problems that Im having, but at the same time they were always getting me in trouble. "Damn J, baby in blue at the pool table is checking you out big time. You better go and jump on that cause she in fine as hell." Josh said. We all turned around to see who he was drooling over and I had to admit he wasnt lying, she was cute in the face with a banging body, but I knew what I had at home was better. "She aiight." I lied knowing damn well I was feeling her. "Aiight, man that girl is more than aiight. She is sexy as hell and she got that exotic look going for her. If you dont want her, I will surely take her." Kerry said. "Go ahead I got a girl at home." "Man all you have to do is talk to her, you aint got to fuck her and besides Renee aint here." Marcus said. "Naw Im straight." "Well Im about to go and holla at her." Kerry walked over to where she was, but it wasnt long before he turned right around and walked back to the table. Marcus started clowning him."Damn she wasnt feeling yo ugly ass at all." Everybody cracked up. "Nigga shut up. She aint that damn fine anyway." You could tell Kerry's pride was hurt. We was still laughing at the expense of Kerry, when the same girl came and walked to the table with her friends following behind her. She stood in front of me, put her hand out, and said,"Hi, my name is Miranda." I shook her hand and said, "Im Jonathan-" "-and he got a girlfriend." Kerry butted in. I wanted to slap the shit out of his hating ass. Miranda didnt seem to be phased by that because she grabbed a napkin and wrote her number on it. "Call me when your girl aint around." She said. I took the number and put it in my pocket with intentions to throw it away when we left. When her and her girls walked away I got on Kerry's ass. "Maybe she would have been interested in you if you wasnt so damn desperate. Dont try to throw salt on my game cause you couldnt get it." I said. "Whatever man, what happened to all that shit about you having a girl at home. For somebody who has a woman, you sure was happy to take that number." He said. "Just because he took the number dont mean he is going to call her. You need to stop hating and take some lessons." Josh said. Kerry got up and walked out of the bar. I didnt want his feelings to get hurt, but at the same time he pissed me off. "Dont worry about that nigga J, he'll get over it." Marcus told me. "It dont even matter because Im about to take my ass home to my baby. I'll see yall later." I told them. "Alright we'll talk to you later." Josh said. I left the bar, got in my car, and went home. I had had enough excitement for one night and it was time to go home and talk to my girl. Beverly I took the number to my friend, Andre, so he could trace it. He typed the number into his home computer and started doing something with it. I anxiously sat next to him waiting for anything he could give me. "Bev baby this is a spoof number." He said. "What is that?" I asked. I didnt know shit about no computers. "Its a number that you call, when you here the dialtone you press 9 and then you dial the number of the person you are trying to call. When that person looks on their caller ID, instead of seeing your number, they see some made up number." Aint this some shit. Just when I thought I had a lead on who the anonymous person could be, this shit happens. "But-" He said. "But what?" I interrupted him before he could finish. I would be grateful for anything he gave me. "I can find out what the real number is." "Good good good. Hurry up and get it." He laughed at my impatience. "Okay hold on." He started typing and doing a whole bunch of something. It seemed like he was taking forever, but it really only took him a couple of minutes. "Okay here it is." He moved to the side so that I could see the number. I used his cell phone to dial the number because I figured the killer would know its me if I used my phone. I sighed anxiously waiting for somebody to pick up the phone. They picked up after the third ring. "Hello." It was a familiar female voice, but it wasnt the voice of the person that was calling me. "Who is this?" I asked "Who is this?" The voice asked with an attitude and thats when I realized who's number I had dialed. "Renee is that you?" "Yeah-mama?" I dropped the phone on the floor and all of a sudden I couldnt breathe. My daughter was the killer.
