*This is short but I'll be back tomorrow so don't curse me out too badly, lol!*
Robin’s time with Ryan that night was spent making love as though it were the last time she’d ever feel the touch of another human being. Her body soaked up his every sensation, as she drank in thirst-filled desire for her as if it were a life giving nectar. Lust lit the torch for her most primal needs until finally love found them panting for breath and drunk with mortal satisfaction. But passion is fleeting and soon Robin’s eye’s fell upon the clock to find that it was two hours past her usual time of arrival home.
Her Cinderella moment was met with an unusual resistance from Ryan as he said, “I don’t want to keep doing this, Robin.”
“Doing what?” Robin questioned. She had heard him say what he was about to say countless times before but never in the manner in which he’d just said it. It sounded as if he were really fed up with what had been going on between them and just when she found herself in need of him. She had asked the question but she really didn’t want to know the answer. She had already started to put up her defenses, as she hurriedly got dressed.
“This!” Ryan said, as he sat up in his bed making no attempt to get dressed. His voice was filled with urgency as he continued, as though he were in a rush to get the words off his mind, “What we’re doing here. We hardly ever spend any real time together and when we are together we’re here in bed or pretending that where ever we are is a bed and I’m just tired of it. I probably just broke your husband’s nose tonight and for what…for someone I feel is using me to fill some empty place he left behind. I mean, what the hell is really going on between us. You tell me, that you don’t want anything serious but then you blow up because you think I’m married. You want me to tell you everything but you don’t want me to ask you any questions. You tell me not to lie to you but you don’t believe anything I say to you...I don’t know what games you’re playing but I don’t have time or patience for any of them.”
“What’s wrong with you?” Robin said her voice quivering as though she were walking on eggshells. She didn’t know what to say so she was afraid that she may say the wrong thing something she didn’t want to do. She continued as she pulled her shirt over her head, “I’m not playing any games. I just-“
“What’s going on between you and your husband?” Ryan snapped as he interrupted. He sounded as though he didn’t want to hear any explanation for Robin’s action. He seemed determined to have answers to his questions only.
“Nothing!” Robin replied wanting to sound as convincing as humanly possible. It was now that she was certain that Jay’s return had completely shattered the sweet arrangement that she had with Ryan. Ryan seemed content with their relationship before this past week but now that Jay had thrown himself back into the picture she could feel her little sex without commitment arrangement slowly slipping away. She continued, “There’s nothing going on between me and Jay. He just showed back up out of nowhere talking about reconciling but I’m not interested in getting back together with Jay.”
“Why not? I mean…he is your husband. You two have a daughter together an-“ Ryan started.
“So!” Robin snapped, somewhat insulted by his words, “So what. Yeah, we were married so what-“
“You’re still married,” he again interrupted.
“On paper,” Robin shot back as now she was upset, “and don’t sit there and act like you didn’t know I wasn’t divorced yet. You knew I was waiting for everything to be finalized and you didn’t have a problem with it before so what's really going on here? I mean, if you looking for a way out of what we doing then just say so cause-“
“Dammit, Robin!” Ryan snapped while rubbing his eyes with the palms of his hands before lying back on his pillows as he continued, “I’m not looking for a way out of anything! I’m just…” he paused as he seemed to search for the words to what he wanted say, “I don’t know. I don’t want to be fighting over another woman who’s in love with another man. I'm not trying to be your rebound guy.”
Robin’s frustration made her voice crack as she tried to find the reason for why she felt the need to justify her true intentions to this man, “I’m not in love with Jay! I haven’t been in love with him for a very long time. The only reason we stayed married as long as we did is because I was,” she paused before she spoke the words only her heart knew to be true, “I was just in love with being in love. You know, married with the house the kid and the dog…the American dream. I just didn’t want to let go of what I thought I had…what every other woman wanted but I don’t didn’t give a shit about Jay then and I certainly don’ t give a shit about him now. His affair coming out was the best thing that could have happened to our marriage...and I don’t want you fighting over me either. I’m a big girl. I can fight my own damn battles.”
“I’m not trying to fight your battles. I’m just trying to…to I don’t know.” Ryan started but seemed to lose his thoughts. He inhaled deep before he asked, “What do you want from me, Robin? For real, because I don’t know.”
Robin climbed back on the bed and crawled over to him. She crawled onto him and straddled him, placing a thigh on either side of his waist, before she softly said with honestly ringing true in her voice, “Ryan, I honestly don’t know but I do know that I don’t want to lose you. I admit that I’ve been trying not to develop any kind of feelings for you but it's not working. Now, I’m not saying I’m in any kind of love with you but it’s not just lust that I’m feeling either. I don't know what I'm feeling but I don't want us to call it quits before I find out.”
Ryan smiled. She apparently said the right words. He slid his palms up and down her thighs as he said, “Okay. I'm probably just overreacting anyway. It's been a long time since I've had to deal with any of these kind of feelings. I'm sorry but you know, I’m trying to make you my woman,” he lifted himself up so that he could softly kiss her lips.
Robin was still reluctant to get involved with Ryan but she finally had to question her own reasoning. He was a good guy with a big dick that he knew how to use and more importantly he fancied her with all of her faults. He came from what she thought was a strange family but he still seemed to be a real stand up guy. Hell, he had just laid Jay’s ass out for putting his hands on her so she was confident that he could protect her if necessary. Most importantly, he seemed just as afraid of any feelings he may have been having as she was and that fact alone made it seem as though they were truly in this thing together. And after feeling alone for so long, to know that she wasn’t was such a welcomed feeling that she made love to him again before she finally went home.
The next day brought seemingly sunnier skies. Monique had cursed up a storm when she finally made it home well after eleven on a school night, but nothing could take this new feeling of bliss away. She had received two sets of roses that day; one arrived that morning in a laminated gold box with a pretty fanned out red bow filled with a dozen long stemmed roses, which quickly made Robin the envy of all the women in the office. The card attached read: these colorful weeds symbolize the colorful feeling I get when I think about you…love Ryan. She was filled with elation by all of the attention his show of affection has bought her, so much so that she was could only smile when questioned about just who this Ryan person was.
It was her early day, so around about the time most people were going to lunch she was calling it a day. She carried her box of colorful weeds like a queen holding her scepter as she made her way to her car. She tossed her bag in the backseat of her before she noticed another gold box lying in the passenger seat of her car. She smiled thinking that Ryan was over doing it just a little. She opened the door anxious to find what the box held.
Before she could even close her door she was opening the box, but her heart cringed when she saw the contents of the box. Inside were a dozen black roses with a card that read: I thought these would be appropriate since our marriage is dead. At first Robin was frightened but as she lifted the flowers out of their box she saw what appeared to be papers that had been crumbled and unfolded several times. She scanned the documents and elations grew inside her as she found the papers to be her divorce papers and under the defendant for dissolution of the marriage was Jay’s signature. The flowers were a big creepy now that she was no longer married, they were the most beautiful bouquet she’d ever seen.
