A Thin Line Between Love and Hate (2nd installment)

Mekhi

I pulled into my driveway just as the sun set.  My phone

started vibrating to the beat of Gangsta Bitch by Lil' Boosie.

"Yea?" I answered. "What's good wit' it?"

"Match a blunt!" It was Khloe my closest homegirl since the

11th grade.  She smoked the most weed out of any woman

that I'd ever know, but she was smart as hell.  "Honestly, I

can't even do that right now," I told her.  "Just got to the

house and I got some shit to do real quick."

     "Alright, well hit me up."

"Yea."  I hit the end button on my phone then unlocked the

front door.  As soon as I stepped in I felt a pair of small

soft hands latch on to my calve muscles. "Mekhi!"  It was my

three year old nephew, Sincere.  My sister likes ghetto names

like that.  I picked him up then walked through the house

looking for my older sister.  She's 25 and I'm 21.  I walked

down the hall to her bedroom and the door was closed.  I

noticed Sincere's father's Jeep was parked across the

street.  Shit, I ain't been in the house ten minutes and

niggas are blowing me up already, I think to myself, pressing

the send button on my cell phone.  It was the homie, Mario

telling me about a frat party at USC.  I was definately down

for that.  It was summer time.  Shit I was on vacation from

working hard year round at Cal State Dominguez towards my

bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice.  I was trying to party

and fuck as much as possible until August.  After that, my

focus was always school, I may get a weekend or two to mess

around out of the month.  For the most part I was consumed

with studies and homework.  I cut the conversation short and

told my nigga to call me when he wanted to meet up.

Tasha

I literally rolled out of bed and on to the floor when I

heard my alarm go off.  I rushed to my cell phone to shut the

sound out.  It was 10:35 p.m.  Just as the alarm went off

my phone started ringing.  "Hello?" "Are you up, yet?" It was

Tashira, my sister.  "Yea, bitch. I'm up." I groaned.  It was

time to head out.  I really didn't feel like going anywhere but

my sister was out here visiting from Atlanta and had set up a

double date for us to go on.  I was in a long term relationship

from the age of 16 to 20 and we've been broken up for three

months.  Honestly, I was down for anything at this point. My

relationship with my ex-boyfriend Mekhi was the epitamy(Sp?)

of a true emotional roller coaster.  In the beginning, in high

school, things were rocky.  He was one of the most popular

boys at his high school and he was a star athlete on his

basketball team.  We met during football season, though at a

game.  Our schools were rivals and our bestfriends were

dating each other, too.  I'd already heard about him and I'd

seen him in pictures with mutual friends.

Right away we clicked, my mom liked him and my dad

tolerated him.  One day when he got out of school early he

came over to my school to pick me up so we could spend the

day together.  As soon as he pulled into the student parking

lot broads were starring and breaking their scrawny little

necks trying to get a peak at him.  Bitches knew who Mekhi

Smalls was and wanted to have him.  Even as junior in high

school 'Khi's swag was always turned on.  He was a cool down

to earth nigga, plus a great athlete with a nice body.  The

total package.

Before I could even get to the car, this bitch Nia

Jackson was all in his face trying to dip her head into the

car.  I'm not a jealous, insecure girl, but when people heard

Mekhi and I were talking everyone had objections and hater

comments.  I walked over to the car and spoke to the both of

them.  "What the hell are yall doin'?" I asked.  Mekhi was

popular in our district so I figured he'd probably know Nia and

the rest of her crew.

"Oh, 'Khi is my buddy!"  Nia smiled.  "I've known him for

a few months now."  I looked at Mekhi and smiled. "Are you

going to unlock the door, 'Khi?" He unlocked it and this bitch

Nia hopped in the car too.

"Where're you takin' her?" I wanted to know.

"She lives down the street from me.  I'm gon' take

her home, cool?"  I was instantly irritated and annoyed.
