The Crossover pt. 5

The Crossover, pt. 5 – Jay’s Recovery, and chasing demons…
Savoy found his phone and tried calling Marcus on his. He wasn’t getting any answer. Savoy informed his crew to rally up in the VIP section. He asked the owners to allow the smaller bar to be exclusive, that’s where Marcus was relaxing minutes ago. Ray looked at her phone and quickly jumped up knocking the chick on her lap to the floor. She was fingering her for most of the evening. Her low profile was officially over, she has to show up. Once in the bar, Ray and six other people except for Brock were present. Savoy told them he is leaving but will be back as soon as possible. He looked at Ray, his look, telling her she better not be involved in whatever was going on. She is insulted. She’s been quiet all night, too quiet, not bothering a soul. Savoy asked where Brock is. I need my trigger man. Ray remained silent even after everyone else denied seeing or speaking to him. This sparked her curiosity, because he hasn’t called her with any updates. She really isn’t surprised though. She didn’t really expect Jay to go any…maybe to the store or something. She hoped Jay was creeping on Marcus. Ray knew her hormones had to raging. The call of a woman should be surfacing soon.
Savoy’s last words to them was do not let on that something is stirring, continue to laugh and party with the people. He on the other hand walked right out of Sonar and right into Pinkey. She was still fuming about Carla and how she blew her off. She was ready to leave; none of her plans had worked out. She stood there waiting for her home girl so they could leave. She is in there grinding on some light skin chick with a big ass. Pinkey turning to reenter Sonar instead hits Savoy’s chest neither paying attention, both in their own thoughts. Savoy stepped back apologizing. He did check for his wallet though. He tried to step around her he was in a hurry, but Pinkey now alert refused to let this opportunity to pass her by. She looked up at him licking her lips, before inquiring about his hasty exit. Savoy faked a laugh-joked and said – business is calling. Pinkey asked does it involve you and I, more drinks, and your bed. Savoy told her no, not right now. He gave her his “ho train” number. He told her to call him tomorrow after 4 o’clock. They could plan from there. Pinkey was happier than a crack head who found a stash after a police raid. He walked off. She wondered what had him departing his own party in such a rush. Oh well, she thought…my night ended well after all. I got what I needed and wanted. Marcus – here I come. She programmed Savoy’s number in her phone with his name spelled backwards, Yovas. This was no ordinary man; she is entering what she believed to be the major league of dealers. After seeing Marcus and Savoy speak, she wondered what Marcus’ pockets really looked liked.
Around the corner from Sonar and tucked away in his Mercedes Benz, Savoy attempted to call Marcus again still not receiving any answers. He cuts on his cars as he is about to pull into traffic to his phone rings. He hits his brakes. He isn’t answering anyone’s call except his brother’s and Jay’s. It dawned on him to try her phone; it rang several times before going to voicemail. He listened to Jay’s voice before hanging up without leaving a message. He had no idea of where he is heading. He continued calling both phones. About an hour and half later, his phone rings. It’s a call from Jay’s phone. His hands begin to tremble; he didn’t know he is so nervous. He bravely said “hello”. It took Lyric 30 minutes to calm Marcus down, and now she had to calm Savoy fears. She didn’t know which one was worse when it comes to Jay. In a motherly tone, Lyric said Savoy listen to me okay…Savoy signed. He feared the worst. Lyric said it isn’t that bad. No sound came from Savoy. Lyric continued uninterrupted. She informed him that Jay has been shot, per the doctor, it is a clean wound and she will survive. The bullet has been removed but the baby’s vitals are escalated. We are all concerned about the baby still no comment from Savoy. The doctor plans on keeping Jay for the next several days. Marcus and I aren’t telling anyone where she is. I’m only telling you because of Marcus’ request. Savoy final spoke up. He couldn’t hold his tongue any longer. He asked where…his voice faded. Lyric said, she’s at Sinai Hospital. He hung up and pulled into traffic without looking. He had to swerve to avoid hitting a taxi.
It’s not like Jay hasn’t had her share of run-ins in the past, it could be anyone taking advantage of her present situation. Savoy didn’t think so. Jay took a few steps back due to the pregnancy. Anyone targeting her had a personal vendetta against her. At that moment, Savoy could only think of one person in particular. He knew Ray wasn’t an aggressor in a battle. She knows she wouldn’t win, plus she was a reactor. She was a great hype man when needed. He couldn’t approach anyone right now. He gave Lyric his word. He is aware of other to get her to confess.
He pulled up to Sinai Hospital and luckily found somewhere to park. He left everything in his car under the seat, which is removable except for his cell phone and car keys. He had to remain strong. He wouldn’t breakdown. His feelings for Jay were improper, yet, he couldn’t shrug them off. He paused to pray before entering the hospital. Savoy hasn’t spoken to the Lord in a longtime. He hoped he is listening.
Brock got home safely and without delay calls Ray. Ray went off yelling you know Savoy monitors our phones. Brock said this is a valid call regarding your business or shall I can hang up and call Savoy directly. He would be interested in knowing where I’ve been all night instead of at his party. She couldn’t believe he went there. It appears that loyalty didn’t mean anything these days. Brock isn’t a snitch – Ray needed a wakeup call. Brock genuinely didn’t want to get hurt. He had time to think. He would be wanted by at least three gangs of goons due to his impulsive behavior.
Savoy didn’t monitor any of their calls. He only told select individuals that he didn’t trust – a hundred that is how gullibly Ray is. She hung onto every word dispensed by Savoy. Brock didn’t bother to correct her. He had enough problems stilly brewing. He had an irking feeling that Ray would snitch on him long before Savoy or Marcus suspected him, in order, to save her own ass. He had to come up with an unwavering story which would make Ray or anyone else appear to be lying. It would be difficult. He didn’t want to threaten her but she has to be reminded of her place in the food chain. She was a groupie – for real. He had to keep reminding himself of that fact. He wasn’t anyone’s snitch or bitch. He’ll ride or die together with his boys before telling. Ray got him into this mess and he needed a “Jesus walked on water” type miracle to get out of it then he thought about it. He is the one that started shooting blindly while Jay was in the vicinity. Approximately two hours ago, Marcus arrived at the hospital barely able to breathe like he ran all the way there. He asked the emergency room nurse, who happened to be on the phone, about Jay and what room number she’s in. The nurse rudely ignored him until she got off of her (personal) call. She then asked him to repeat his question, He did. He had to restrain himself from going off. She hit a few keys on her keyboard, and then told him – she’s behind curtain 50-a. He raced down the hallway to be by her side. Once he was in her presence. He broke down crying. Jay is shocked. He’s never cried in front of her or anyone that she’s knows of before. She said everything will be okay, baby, with me and the baby. He mumbled something that she didn’t understand. She couldn’t move in to hug him with the IV and other monitors taped to her and her stomach so she grasped his hand in hers. He responded by firmly gripping hers back. She gently told him to release her hands; he was squeezing hers too tightly. Jay asked for some water. Although they had her on an IV drip, her lips were dry and becoming to crack. Lyric said she’ll go get some since Marcus refused to leave her side. He rubbed the side of her face and then her belly. His unborn child was important to him. He internally thanked the Lord for this save. He didn’t know what he would have done if anything had happened to them. Detective Viviane Cobbs peeked in. She had some questions for Jay. She wanted to know why someone would be shooting at a pregnant woman particularly this time of the morning. She knew there was more to the story. She also found herself wanting to know more about this woman. She didn’t appear to be the typical straight female. Shortly thereafter Lyric resurfaced with a jug of water and several paper cups. While she was out, she called to Savoy to inform him of what was happening.
The Detective Cobbs excused her entrance, and said she had some questions. Marcus just stared at her with the evil eye. He told her Jay wasn’t available to answer any questions. Jay whispered to him and he eased up some. The doctor came in to check on his patients. He told everyone that they had to leave. No one else was allowed in to see her. The detective said that she would be back and winked at Marcus. Detective Cobbs also found him extremely sexy; however, Jay saw what she did and was disparaged by her behavior. Jay couldn’t say what she wanted to say since the doctor ejected them all from the room. The next time that detective would get an ear full that was totally disrespectful. This afforded Marcus and Lyric some time to step out and talk, Lyric informed him Savoy is on his way there. If he isn’t there already, she would have to check. He told her okay and attempted to go back to attend to Jay in her somewhat weakened condition. The doctor hesitated but he let him return to her side. She and Marcus whispered back and forth until they heard rattle it was the nurse. She poked her head in to notify Jay that she was being moved upstairs to a private room. Both Jay and Marcus glanced at each other wondering why she was being moved. How did she manage ….private room this thought was on both of their minds? Moments later, they had an answer to their unspoken question when Savoy walked in shaking hands with the doctor. Lyric cautiously walked behind them. She overheard the entire exchange. She was impressed with how smooth a wordsmith Savoy could be and how quickly a doctor would be bribed when someone has dirt on them.
Lyric waved to Jay that she would explain later on. The nurse moved expeditiously hooking and unhooking everything that was required to be relocated with the patient. The nurse politely instructed Jay’s guest to follow along. She subsequently rolled Jay from behind the curtain. Jay felt a sudden cramp and bent forward everyone jumped to lend her a hand. Marcus is getting really nervous. The nurse told all of them to calm down the cramps are common after this kind of trauma. Lyric suspected that statement was bullshit. If Jay cramped again there were going to be some issues. They all took the elevator up to the 3rd floor. Jay is in room 324, the room and view is beautiful. When the nurse finished the hooking and unhooking process, she eagerly left the room. Jay didn’t have any more episodes. Waiting patiently, Marcus finally turned to Savoy demanding to know how the hell he pulled this stunt off. Standing by Jay, Lyric laughed lightly, which caused Jay to look up at her. She witnessed everything. It seems that Jay’s doctor has a coke habit and loves the project hoes. He has visited one or two of Savoy’s stash houses. Savoy didn’t threaten to blackmail him. He just knew never to come to Sinai Hospital to be seen if he is ever sick. He basically said you can have any amount of cocaine, quote your price that you desire within reason as long as you get Jay into a private room. The doctor not being too greedy because he is aware of Savoy’s reputation states his prices. It is low compared to what he could have asked for.
Jay didn’t know what to say or do. She just shook her head and welcomed the blessing. She didn’t like hospitals anyway so this was a welcomed change even though she would rather be home in her own bed.
After being in the hospital for week and a half, Jay was tired of being poked and tested on. Jay welcomed the scenery change. She was just happy that her baby was healthy and well. Lyric on the other hand was tasked with finishing all of the last minute details for Jay’s baby shower, which is less than a month away. Jay hasn’t been herself since the shooting. She is quieter and much more reserved. When Marcus or Lyric asks her a question, her response is… you decide.
Jay can’t wait to have her baby. The cramping has stopped. Luckily, for her it was only gas. She has some situations that needed to be handled swiftly. She didn’t want Marcus involved. Her concern was that whore as bitch detective Cobbs that pops up claiming that she is following up, but Jay suspects there is more to her story. Even Savoy has doubts about her. He has never seen her around before. All Jay thought about was someone almost killed her unborn child. The downside is her blood pressure is up with all her silent worrying. The doctor ordered her to check her blood pressure daily, and if it got too high she would be required to return to the hospital for monitoring. Neither Marcus nor Savoy had any answers for her, as of yet, to why this occurred. They both witnessed that the majority of the hood was at Sonar when the shooting begun. It is going to be difficult to sort this out. Jay didn’t have any outside of Ray that wished her harm. Savoy questioned his crew multiple times, No one’s story sounded questionable. Marcus knew it wasn’t his crew’s actions that caused this. He told them to be alert everywhere that they went someone was aiming for blood. La was worried. Marcus told him it wasn’t his fault. Whoever did this had no heart and would lose theirs once they were found.
When Brock decided to resurface, he has several hickeys all over his neck. Savoy understood. Pussy is the call of the wild. Remembering the chick he met outside of Sonar, the night Jay got. She has called him a few times seeking a hook up. Savoy believed she was seeking more than a smut, and had ill intentions since she is always asking him who his was with. He figured he would hit it and dismiss it. Savoy is worried about Jay. She hasn’t been handling this situation well. She doesn’t go anywhere further than her or Marcus’ house and Marcus has to force her to leave the house for some fresh air. He believed Jay suspects who did this. He wouldn’t feel any remorse for him or her once they were caught. He, also, knew she wouldn’t tell him or Marcus she’ll handle it on her very own. He didn’t want anything to happen to her. She will be his niece or nephew mother.
…Two weeks before Jay’s baby shower, people on the street were amped about it. Her shower was the talk of the town not too many were aware that she had been shot. Some folks were planning on purchasing her big ticket items as gift for repayment for a deed she had done for them somewhere along the way. Lyric and Jay both agreed to leave the gift decisions to the guest. She didn’t know what she wanted outside of a crib, stroller, sleepers, pampers, etc. This was her first pregnancy and she didn’t want to unnecessary stress from creating a gift registry online, which asked too many questions. She and Marcus had decided not to inquire about the sex of the baby. They wanted to be surprised. If anything was duplicated, she would wither return it or give it away to someone who needed it. Talking about the shower excited Jay slightly. It took her mind off what happened. Meanwhile, Det. Cobbs was still lingering around asking questions to her, Marcus, Lamont, and Lyric. They continued to give her the same responses; we do not know who would have done this. Each time she surfaced, she wore something tight and revealing. Jay politely told her once she better watch herself, don’t get yourself hurt. Det. Cobbs asked her was she threatening her. Jay smiled, and said take it however you like. I will report you to your superiors. I don’t think they would like hearing that you are coming into my home wearing tight short skirts, and silk see through blouses that are barely covering your breast. Do you dress like this down at the station? Det. Cobbs walked out. Jay didn’t want to be down and out while everyone else was celebrating the new life about the world. She and Marcus talked about who the baby would resemble more.
